ABC Wednesday..... H is for Huis Clos

A few weeks ago, I saw Huis Clos, a play by Jean-Paul Sartre, at the Kawa Théâtre in Montpellier. A great performance of "Le Grain de Sable", a theater company from La Grande-Motte. I think this very small company belongs to another bigger one, Le Masque des Pyramides. I also think I might have already mentioned them. The actors deserve being promoted as they are so talented and Huis Clos is so difficult to play...

Huis is an old French word for porte (door); clos means closed. "A huis clos" means "in camera"...

  1. I must admit I had to Google that one. My knowledge of Sartre is not what it ought to be. It seems that it is definitely NOT a comedy (but who would expect it to be?) and I fully realise that it must be very difficult to play. Maybe a bit like Becket's "Waiting for Godot". So it must be a worthy H indeed - and you have thought me something new!

  2. Ah, now I'm more interested. I love theatre but I don't love poetry (other than Shakespeare).

  3. expat, I am sure you would have liked the poetry on last Friday. Full of play on words and images.

  4. I would have liked it if it is a play on words.

To answer your question about my camera and lenses...

I used a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi and another newer one called a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS1. I used Canon lenses. These were all taken with the inexpensive lens that came with both cameras. You can get close ups with it. It is an 18-55mm lens with IS or image stabilization. I sometimes will screw on a magnification filter of 2x. I don't remember if I used any magnification filter with these shots.

  5. sympathique cette troupe, et puis l'avantage avec les petits théâtres c'est que l'on a accès aux artistes.
Bravo a la troupe et a la photographe

  9. I've looked for the translation in portuguese of that play and I've found it. I've read a few things of Sartre and I didn't know this one.
The photos are great - full of colours.
    Thank you for your comment.

  10. An unusual and clever choice for "H". I am not familiar with this work of Sartre, so a bit of Googling would be in order for me, too.

Thanks for your visit to my "H" is for Hands post. I appreciate it.

  13. Fascinating to see this. I remember studying Huis Clos in acting classes, for ever ago. Fascinating play. Love your photographs. I used to read a lot of Sartre and of course Simone de Beauvoir and still have nearly all her books.
