Mural...... Peacocks in love ? What else?

Jean-Marie Rouart, from the Académie Française, thinks that art is more important than politics (and I think also more important than technique, in the singular). I totally agree with him. This image, which I have to admit, is not particularly remarkable, includes the three elements quoted by Rouart: art (the graceful birds - and also the way the father and the kid on his shoulders are shown), technique (the chariot élévateur - platform truck ???? - and the barriers), and politics (the image of war, at least that is the way I see it because of the terrible fate reserved for migrants in 2015).

C'est au départ  pour mon ami philosophe Mike et son épouse painter Madelon Umlauf, qui ne parviennent pas à déterminer la manière dont les oiseaux ont été réalisés.

Désolée, j'avais malencontreusement mis en ligne un post vide sur le bassin Jacques-Coeur. C'était un "post" jamais terminé que j'avais décidé de supprimer, et j'ai fait l'inverse..... 

THE OLD MILL ALONG THE LEZ

The façade of the old mill along the Lez, close to the Clinique du Parc, in Castelnau-le-Lez,  on March 7th.  This graceful, colorful mural has been made or drawn by two artists. The name of one of them is Coralie. I don't know what these birds (in love, maybe) are the symbol of, but they look Indian, I would say. The drawing must be recent. I do not remember seeing it when I went to the clinic a few days ago but the parking lot was full then and I had to park my car far from the mill....

Je n'avais pas vu ces magnifiques oiseaux dessinés sur le vieux mur du moulin de Castelnau, donnant sur le parking de la clinique, lorsque j'y suis allée il y a quelques jours, mais c'était en semaine, et le parking était blindé ! L'oeuvre est signée par une certaine "Coralie" et quelqu'un d'autre à la signature élégante mais illisible pour moi (écrite dans une langue que je ne connais pas). Je ne sais pas si ces oiseaux sont inspirés par une spiritualité extrême-orientale, indienne, mais vus de près, le travail est magnifique et a requis à coup sûr beaucoup de temps et de patience. Quelqu'un pourra peut-être nous en dire plus. Ces oiseaux sont-ils amoureux (c'est le printemps) : j'espère que les flèches décochées dans leur direction ont été envoyées par Eros et pas par un vilain chasseur.

Montpellier Marathon

 Rue de Jausserand, between Montpellier and Castelnau-le-Lez.... The runners were heading to Grammont.


The Montpellier City Marathon took place this year a few weeks before the NYC race. I took the photo when the "gros du peloton" had already reached Grammont. Too late to show that there were many more participants than the photo might suggest.

Le marathon de Montpellier est passé par la rue de Jausserand, entre la cité Pompignane et les maisons cossues d'un quartier résidentiel de Castelnau. Je suis arrivée trop tard (sur ma route vers Super U) pour applaudir le gros du peloton.

Ruby Tuesday....... Le Grain de Raisin

Red Anduze pot on a table near the entrance door of  Le Grain de Raisin,  a wine boutique and a restaurant where you can buy all the good food products of Languedoc-Roussillon. I had lunch there on August 15th, and I was not the only customer who enjoyed the food. All the dishes served are homemade (the cook  is one of the owners).
Le Grain de Raisin is in Castelnau-le-Lez, at a walking distance from La Pompignane.

Ce n'est pas la première fois que je parle du Grain de Raisin à Castelnau-le-Lez. Ici je montre le pot d'Anduze rouge dans laquelle on a planté un piment (red pepper). J'ai mangé au Grain de Raisin le 15 août et je ne m'attendais pas à me régaler à ce point :-)) J'y retournerai à coup sûr. Il n'y a pas de mal à se faire du bien. Tous les plats sont faits maison avec des produits "du terroir" qu'on peut acheter aussi dans la boutique adjacente.

Le nouveau pont de chemin de fer entre Montpellier et Castelnau est ouvert depuis quelques années. Les autorités en ont profité pour créer une nouvelle route qui améliore la circulation des voitures. 

Les piétons peuvent, eux, toujours passer sous l'ancien pont juste à côté, sans risquer de se faire renverser, et profitent mieux des magnifiques plantations d'Amarger-Arguel.

A Mellow Yellow Monday (since the sun is back at long last). :-)))

Past, present and future yellow flowers and fruit in Pépinières Amarger-Arguel, located between Montpellier and Castelnau. For years, the owners have been helping the neighborhood look beautiful. They installed flower pots along the new street along their garden center as soon as the street was open to car traffic earlier this year.

Du jaune passé, présent et à venir (citrons) dans la magnifique pépinière Amarger-Arguel, dont j'ai souvent montré les plantes dans mon blog (à deux pas de chez moi).

Sky Watch Friday.... between Montpellier and Castelnau

I took this photo of a traffic circle between La Pompignane and Castelnau-le-Lez last November. The sky was not blue, which is quite unusual here!

The number of traffic circles has increased a hundredfold in the past decades in this country. Some of them help but many of them are useless (in my opinion). I have been told that the EU gave money to mayors who installed traffic circles in their cities or towns. The latter (probably) explains the former :-)

ABC Wednesday....... W is for wine

Wine, what else? Languedoc-Roussillon is the largest wine growing region in France.

Two weeks ago, I went walking in Castelnau-le-Lez, next to Montpellier. I bought two bottles of wine at a shop called Le Grain de Raisin. The young "caviste" helped me choose two different wines. I tasted one of them, which was very good. Wine is often cheaper in small shops than in supermarkets!

Le Languedoc-Roussillon est la plus grande région viticole de France. Je suis allée récemment me promener à Castelnau, une petite ville qui jouxte mon quartier. J'y ai découvert la boutique Le Grain de Raisin, où j'ai acheté deux bouteilles de vin. Le jeune caviste m'a aidée à les choisir. Le vin dans les boutiques spécialisées est souvent moins cher que dans les supermarchés !
