Happy Easter

Happy Easter to all of you!

This photo was taken last spring in the "Parc Méric." In the background one can see Frédéric Bazille's house. Bazille was a famous painter from Montpellier. He was killed during the 1870 Franco-Prussian war, aged 29. His famous painting entitled "View of the village" was painted near the house.

Frédéric Bazille

Frédéric Bazille
was an Impressionist painter from Montpellier. He got killed in 1870 in the Franco-German war. He was 29 years old only.

The painting above, which he made in 1868, has just helped save the "valley of the river Lez." The valley is now "listed" (please let me know how I should say this in good English) and the flora and fauna will be protected.

I found the photo of the painting on Olga's gallery. I was surprised to read that hand-painted reproductions of Bazille's paintings were available on that site! The flora and fauna are protected thanks to the painting, but the painting itself is not!

I like the park of the Domaine de Méric in spring, with its large field of poppies and cornflowers. In the background you can see the "mas" (farmhouse, big house) of the famous painter Frédéric Bazille. The park appears on several paintings by Bazille, who died very young during the Franco-Prussian War, in 1870.

On the website of the city of Montpellier, there are "postcards" that you can send to your friends. I think the photographers have added a lot of red to the card showing Méric.
