ABC Wednesday... O is for orange

This photo shows a part of the lobby of the Gerschwin Hotel, 27th Street, New York City. I took it last summer. It was hard for me to recognize the hotel, which must have been bought by Indian people.....With the old man sitting at the table, it makes me think of the atmosphere of Hopper's paintings by Hopper (except the walls should be green).....

Ca c'est une partie de l'entrée de l'hôtel Gerschwin à New York. Je suis descendue plusieurs fois dans cet hôtel il y a plus d'une dizaine d'années. J'ai eu du mal à le reconnaître l'été dernier. Il a dû être racheté par des Indiens qui l'ont totalement transformé. La façade est absolument hideuse. Je me suis contentée de prendre quelques photos dans le "lobby". Cet hôtel était fréquenté par Warhol qui l'a décoré. L'ambiance était super. Mais ça a bien changé, et c'est plutôt triste. Si les murs étaient verts, on pourrait dire que l'ambiance est celle des peintures de Hopper.

Friends

Yesterday I visited the West Village with my friend Lucia. She took a photo of me before (or almost before) the building where the "Friends" series is supposed to have been shot. Actually in the series this building is "located" in the Upper East Side, but in reality it is on the corner of Bedford Street and Grove Street.

There is a lot of information about Greenwich Village on the internet, of course, and the photos are much better than mine :-))

Times Square

The weather was rather nice in Manhattan yesterday. But there were too many people in the streets........ Difficult to make one's way through the crowd.

New York artist Edwin Shan makes drawings of politicians. For the moment he mainly draws Obama's face on tee-shirts and on paper. You can meet him on Union Square on Saturdays.

The Brooklyn bridge was crowded last Saturday! It was so hot I thought I was going to melt.

I was in New York yesterdy. I saw the yogis and the yoginis celebrating the summer solstice in Times Square.

Whitestone Bridge

This is one of the first photos I took a short time after my plane landed at Kennedy Airport last Thursday. I took it from inside the car, therefore it cannot be a good photo! It shows a part of Whitestone Bridge, in the Bronx. Maybe not as impressive as the Viaduc de Millau but not bad at all....

I have not had the opportunity yet to go to Manhattan and to take good photos (I'd better say "photos I like") but I will soon...
