On my way to médiathèque Fellini, right after Lycée Mermoz...

J'ai encore oublié le nom de la statue de la fontaine située devant le lycée Mermoz que je venais de dépasser. Le bâtiments d'habitation derrière la statue font partie du quartier d'Antigone.

The Ephebes, on Place de Thessalie

The third Ephebe whose right arm had been stolen years ago has regained his initial integrity. The three statues are  in the same fountain Place de Thessalie, in Antigone, close to the pool and the public library.

L'Ephèbe dont on avait volé le bras droit est maintenant à nouveau entier. La fontaine aux trois statues est située sur la place de Thessalie dans le quartier d'Antigone.

J'ai pris les trois photos le 28 novembre. Ca devait être ce jour-là l'anniversaire de mon ex-époux. Je n'en suis plus très sûre, et c'est tant mieux.

Réfléchissant devant les reflets du sol de la fontaine de la Place de la Révolution. Les révolutionnaires ont perdu la tête, pardon, ils ont été décapités et ils l'ont sans doute été pour rien.

Comme le bon Georges le chantait,...."Il arrive qu'on meure pour des idées qui n'ont plus cours le lendemain."

Mais où ai-je donc la tête ? La petite fille se demande si la sienne est toujours à sa place, et elle le vérifie.

Monday Doorways..... Pullman Hotel Montpellier

The photo shows a part of the glass façade of  Hôtel Pullman, near the Polygone. It would have been impossible for me to take this photo until a few months ago. But since the new stairway leading to the hotel across the "terrain de pétanque" (boulodrome) was built and open to the public, it has been much easier to enter the Pullman and the Polygone. The structure in the foreground is a water fountain.

Pour la première fois, j'ai pu accéder samedi à l'Hôtel Pullman, que longent les voies du tram et qui jouxte le Polygone, de l'autre côté. Jusqu'à il y a peu, il m'aurait fallu, pour y parvenir, emprunter une autre voie d'accès à l'hôtel. On a récemment construit un escalier qui mène au boulodrome et de là à l'hôtel. La fontaine est intéressante, avec son rideau d'eau qui lui donne un petit côté instrument de musique d'avant-garde (l'eau coule sur des fils de métal). Le seul problème est que le terrain où je prenais mes photos est aussi une rue accessible aux voitures et que j'ai failli me faire écrabouiller.

COLD WINTER

The water of the fountains in Antigone was frozen today.

Il fait plutôt froid à Montpellier en ce moment. Même l'eau des fontaines était gelée cet après-midi.

Disappearance

I took a photo of the fountain on the Place du Nombre d'Or on Tuesday. When I went to the Polygone on Wednesday, the fountain had vanished. No kidding. The statue of Neptune that usually stands in the middle of the fountain was not there either.

J'ai pris des photos de la fontaine de la Place du Nombre d'Or mardi. Quand je suis repassée sur la place mercredi, la fontaine et la statue de Neptune qui se trouve normalement au milieu de la fontaine avaient disparu.

Cold shower

Every time I see the naked statues in the fountain on the Place de Thessalie, I shiver with cold!

Chaque fois que je vois les statues de la fontaine de la place de Thessalie, j'ai froid dans le dos et ailleurs. Quelle douche, les amis, quelle douche. L'un des éphèbes en a perdu un bras. Volé ou rongé par la rouille?




URGE UNESCO TO REJECT THE PROPOSAL FOR BULLFIGHTS TO BE RECOGNISED AS AN INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF HUMANITY

La corrida est pour moi une monstruosité. Les aficionados ont demandé à l'UNESCO de la considérer comme un "bien immatériel de l'humanité" pour éviter qu'elle ne soit interdite.

A fountain near the Corum

There are a lot of fountains in Montpellier. This old one is located at the beginning of the Quai du Verdanson.

There is a list of fountains on the site of the city hall.

Cette ancienne fontaine est située à l'entrée du quai du Verdanson, près du Corum. Montpellier est la ville aux 100 fontaines, dont on peut voir la liste sur le site de l'hôtel de ville.

Poseidon

This statue of Poseidon stands in the middle of the fountain on the Place du Nombre d'Or. It is difficult to photograph it when the fountain is working.

The Ephebes

The Ephebes is the name that has been given to the three statues that support the upper part of the fountain on the Place de Thèbes, in Antigone. I do not know why but the ephebes have always sort of frightened me. Formerly they were in a long, narrow fountain on the Place de la Comédie, which stretched out lengthways. I remember when I passed along them at night I made a point of not looking in their direction.

Are there places where you feel ill at ease as I do when I am near these statues? I really do not understand why they have that effect on me.

I could not photograph the third ephebe as the statue was against the light.

Fountain

This is my favorite fountain in Montpellier. It is located on La Place du Nombre d'Or (the Square of the Golden Number), where I used to live. If the fountain had been installed before I moved, I would never have left the place. I love fountains. This one changes every minute. Kids play in it all summer. Some people seem to be offended by the naked statue....
