Only a small part of the Pont Juvénal is visible on the left-hand side of the top photo. The bottom photo shows a sort of "Radeau de la Méduse." Both photos were taken from the 10th storey of the Hôtel de Région Languedoc-Roussillon. F stands for a four-letter word but please don't get me wrong.

C'était avant le Festival des Sports extrêmes, une grosse semaine avant qu'il ne débute. D'où le titre de mon post. J'ai pris ces deux photos d'un des étages supérieurs de l'hôtel de région LR. Après avoir pris ma photo, je me suis rendu compte qu'il y avait quelqu'un sur le radeau.

Le lendemain, je n'ai pas eu accès à  la balustrade. J'ai dû effectuer la traversée sur la chaussée (je connais quelqu'un qui va me dire que je pouvais aussi l'effectuer en nageant mais je lui réponds par avance : l'accès à l'eau était réservé aux sportifs inscrits). Pas grave, les gens étaient prudents et les participants au FISE étaient vraiment de bonne compagnie.

48 hours before the FISE started. The area was still so quiet and almost deserted!

I took a few spectacular photos of the LEZ and the area around Montpellier from the 10th storey of
the Hôtel de Région (Pic Saint-Loup in the background, and Cité Pompignane in the upper right-hand corner behind the new buildings along the river).

On a un peu de mal à imaginer que deux jours plus tard, 500.000 personnes allaient se presser 
le long du Lez pour admirer les sportifs participant au Festival International de Sports Extrêmes,
 autrement dit au FISE.

J'ai pris la photo deux jours avant le début du 9e étage de l'Hôtel de Région 
(10e aux USA puisque le rez-de-chaussée est leur premier étage).

La passerelle du Moulin de l'Evêque, que j'emprunte à pied ou à vélo pour me rendre en ville et plus
particulièrement à la médiathèque Emile Zola, telle qu'elle était en octobre dernier.
Plus calme qu'aujourd'hui, dernier jour du FISE.

Le calme avant la tempête, c'est le cas de le dire. Tout était calme dans le quartier du Pont Juvénal, vendredi dernier. Ca ne va pas durer !

Weekend Reflections.... Getting ready for the FISE

Reflections of metallic structures on the River Lez, with white tents in the middle ground and the new "mairie" in the background.

The FISE will start next Wednesday, May 16th. Thousands of people are expected to come from all European countries to enjoy it. I bet the banks will be crowded and that will generate a massive buzz.

Le FISE se prépare lentement mais sûrement. Je sais ce que mes amis français vont penser en voyant les tentes blanches sur les pelouses. A l'arrière plan, la nouvelle mairie signée Jean Nouvel.

Mercredi prochain, le FISE démarre et les berges du Lez seront certainement "moins vides" !
