ABC Wednesday..... Z is for Zola

The "médiathèque Emile Zola" is certainly my favorite place in Montpellier. The first photograph shows the statue of the great Greek orator Demosthenes, placed near the library front entrance. You can see part of the back of the library in the second photo.

La première photo montre une partie de la statue de Démosthène, le grand orateur grec, placée devant l'entrée principale de la médiathèque Emile Zola. Sur la seconde photo, on peut voir l'arrière de la médiathèque.


I'll spend next week with Zoe, Greg and Val's cat in Uchaud, while the family is in Belgium.

My son Greg, his girlfriend Val, their daughter Capucine, and Zoé the cat live in Uchaud, Gard, near Nîmes. Uchaud is a peaceful old town.
Mon fils Greg, sa compagne Val, leur fille Capucine et le chat Zoé habitent à Uchaud, dans le Gard, près de Nîmes. Uchaud est un vieux bourg bien tranquille.

ABC Wednesday...... T is for Translators

Every year many translators from all over the world meet in Arles for the Assises de la Traduction, organized by ATLAS.

I took these photos in November 2007. They show the yard of the Espace Van Gogh, which was formerly the Hôtel-Dieu-Saint-Esprit.

Tous les ans, des traducteurs se réunissent en Arles pour les Assises de la Traduction, organisées par ATLAS. J'ai pris ces deux photos en novembre 2007. On y voit le jardin de l'Espace Van Gogh, qui fut autrefois l'Hôtel-Dieu-Saint-Esprit.

J'ajoute quand même une petite rose, plus romantique que mon plat cuisiné. Si vous êtes sur Montpellier en ce moment, allez voir les rosiers de Grammont (devant le théâtre). Ils sont magnifiques.

ABC Wednesday... O is for orange

This photo shows a part of the lobby of the Gerschwin Hotel, 27th Street, New York City. I took it last summer. It was hard for me to recognize the hotel, which must have been bought by Indian people.....With the old man sitting at the table, it makes me think of the atmosphere of Hopper's paintings by Hopper (except the walls should be green).....

Ca c'est une partie de l'entrée de l'hôtel Gerschwin à New York. Je suis descendue plusieurs fois dans cet hôtel il y a plus d'une dizaine d'années. J'ai eu du mal à le reconnaître l'été dernier. Il a dû être racheté par des Indiens qui l'ont totalement transformé. La façade est absolument hideuse. Je me suis contentée de prendre quelques photos dans le "lobby". Cet hôtel était fréquenté par Warhol qui l'a décoré. L'ambiance était super. Mais ça a bien changé, et c'est plutôt triste. Si les murs étaient verts, on pourrait dire que l'ambiance est celle des peintures de Hopper.

ABC Wednesday.... M like melancholy

M is an easy letter, I think. I could have talked about myself, about Montpellier, about Maguelonne, about the Méditerranée, about Méric, about my street (rue Paul Marres). I chose to focus on melancholy. I took the photo in Maguelonne.

I am not in Montpellier for the moment. I am in the "Gard" (capital: Nîmes). I took this photo last week. There were lovely flowers on the Esplanade Charles de Gaulle.

J'ai pris cette photo la semaine dernière sur l'Esplanade Charles de Gaulle à Montpellier. Je suis dans le Gard cette semaine.

ABC Wednesday...... I like Isis

Isis is now over 16. When she was sick last year, Pepette the rabbit helped her a lot. Isis is my son Cedric's dog.

Isis est le chien de mon fils Cédric. Elle a maintenant plus de seize ans. C'est un chien super, très intelligent et doux. Quand elle a été malade l'an dernier, Pepette le lapin l'a beaucoup aidée.

ABC Wednesday..... H is for Huis Clos

A few weeks ago, I saw Huis Clos, a play by Jean-Paul Sartre, at the Kawa Théâtre in Montpellier. A great performance of "Le Grain de Sable", a theater company from La Grande-Motte. I think this very small company belongs to another bigger one, Le Masque des Pyramides. I also think I might have already mentioned them. The actors deserve being promoted as they are so talented and Huis Clos is so difficult to play...

My friend Geneviève did her best to avoid the mud when we walked around the Etang du Méjean last week. It had rained heavily a few days before.

Yesterday the weather was wonderful here but today the rain and the wind are back.
