ABC Wednesday......... G is for Goose

I wanted to write about my son Gregory but I am a bit afraid of posting personal photos on the Internet now (after having problems with a crazy blogger last year). I could have posted photos of my G friends, the two Geneviève(s), Dominique Gauthiez-Rieucau, Mireille Giraud, etc. but I have so many G friends that I might have made one of them jealous :-)))

Therefore I decided to post these photos of geese I photographed near the Westport public library in 2008. I have never seen geese like these in France. I know they can be a nuisance. The young lady in the photo would not have been able to sunbathe sitting on the lawn. Some people say these birds can be very aggressive. Those I photographed in Westport were not, and they even seemed to pose for me. No white geese among them!(white geese, "oies blanches" in French, is a pejorative way to call "young innocent" girls or women - our language is full of images).

Skywatch Friday ........ A lot of snow in Connecticut

This is how the sky looked in Westport in last October.

This is how the sky looks today. I took the photo five minutes ago. It has been snowing here for a few hours and it does not look as if it were going to stop snowing soon.

You can visit the blogs participating in the Skywatch Friday here.

Bicycle

I had been looking for a used bicycle in Fairfield County since I arrived last month. I finally found it at the Museum of Westport History! Well, it needs to be oiled and greased a little before I can use it :-))

The museum is a tiny one. It is an octogonal cobblestone barn which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its occupancy is limited to 10 people.

ABC Wednesday..... Q like quaint

This quaint little blue house is for sale. I would like to be able to buy it. It is on Cross Highway here in Westport.

I like old houses much better than the huge ones that were built in the past few years and that are for sale now (due to the economic crisis).

Please visit the blogs of the other participants in the ABC Wednesday.

The last rose

One of the last roses of the year. I took the photo before a house at Compo Beach, Westport.

The strange tree

Isn't that a strange tree? It looks as if it had a "paw" missing. I took the photo today at Sherwood Island State Park here in Westport.

Old barn

Tyler's barn on Cross Highway, Westport, Connecticut, dates to 1782. It has been turned into a very beautiful house.

Sky Watch Friday

I took this photo a few weeks ago near the public library in Westport, Connecticut.

Duck walk

I did not take this photo. It was published in a local newspaper. Last week, it took a duck family about 20 minutes to cross a street downtown Westport. It was reported that car drivers waited patiently.

I find that admirable. In Montpellier, some car drivers would have been too happy to run over the little animals.

ABC Wednesday..... W like Winslow Park

Just a few photos of Winslow Park, a very beautiful park in Westport, which I photographed last week.

Please visit Mrs Nesbitt's Place and the blogs participating in the ABC Wednesday this week.

Westport Country Playhouse

These are photos of Westport Country Playhouse, which has been recently renovated thanks to the most famous Westport residents, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, among others. Joanne is one of the artistic directors. Paul Newman is a member of the Advisory Council to the Board.

The playhouse has been painted the same colors as barns were in former times but I don't think they used ox blood. :-))

Rain

It has rained a lot here lately. Last night we had a big storm, a monster storm. Everybody was scared but me. I must be very brave :-)) I drove the car back home right in the middle of the storm, through the forest. That was quite an adventure.

I took the photo in New York City last Saturday. It was raining like "vache qui pisse".

For those who like French cuisine and more generally French culture, you should visit this blog, which I discovered this morning: http://dumieletdusel.canalblog.com/

Literally the name of the blog is "of honey and salt."

Barn

This little barn must have been oxblood red in former times. I have recently learned that the early settlers painted their barns with the blood of their cows....

Cette petite grange a du etre couleur sang de boeuf dans les temps anciens. J'ai recemment appris que les premiers colons peignaient leurs granges avec le sang de leurs vaches.

Church

I forgot the name of this little church located downtown Westport, which was built with cobblestones.

Zapata

I have been in Westport, Connecticut, for two days now. I love it here. Yesterday my good friend Craig took me to a Mexican restaurant, El Acapulco, in Norwalk.
