Dominican Church

The Dominican Church is located on rue Fabre, not far from the Comédie. I have just read that
the most famous and very politically incorrect Dominican in Montpellier, le père Cardonnel, died in last July.
He was quite a character,

L'Eglise des Dominicains est située dans la rue Fabre, non loin de la Comédie. Je viens de lire que
le plus célèbre et le plus politiquement incorrect Dominicain de Montpellier, le père Cardonnel, était mort en juillet.

Church

I forgot the name of this little church located downtown Westport, which was built with cobblestones.

Old church

I didn't take this photo in Montpellier but in Montagnac, a town near Pézenas, in Hérault. It shows the porch of the very beautiful Eglise Saint-André.

Chapelle Saint-Charles

This is the façade of the Chapelle Saint-Charles, which was part of the Hôpital Saint-Charles. The buildings of the hospital have recently been turned into a "résidence." The chapel has been deconsecrated and is now called "La Maison des Choeurs de Montpellier." Quoirs meet and rehearse there.

You will find a lot of photos and information about the chapel and an exhibition that took place in it a few years ago on M. Francis Lopez's site, Les Rues de Montpellier (menu on the left-hand side).

Frog story

This is a stoup (un bénitier). It is in marble and it is one of the stoups in Saint-Roch Church. As I probably already mentioned, Saint Roch is the patron saint of Montpellier.

Can you see what there is in the stoup ? There is a frog (une grenouille) in it. The frog is in white marble. On August 16th, during the procession, a priest talked about the reason why there is a frog in the stoup. I have forgotten what he said but I will ask M. Lopez. He knows everything about Montpellier.

Do you know how we call "churchy old people" in French ? We call them "grenouilles de bénitier" (literally stoup frogs). Our grenouilles de bénitier are not necessarily old!
