ART WITH A ROOF

I am back with a "street art" photo, or should I rather call it roof art or chimney painting?

I know there exists a "movement" called Art Without a Roof (AWR), my Anglophone friends will surely know more about it..... I gave my post the title "Art With a Roof" to "relate" it  to AWR.

Je me demande où j'étais quand j'ai pris cette photo. En principe, les piétons ne doivent pas se trouver là, pas plus que les cyclistes, et la circulation des voitures sur cette bretelle ne permet pas aux conducteurs de s'arrêter pour photographier l'environnement.... 

J'ai une pensée pour toutes les personnes qui ont péri ces derniers jours dans les "accidents" de train, d'avion, de bus, et en particulier je pense aux pélerins....

I have been leaning to the left side for a few weeks (more than I used to do since I was born), and that shows in my photo (upper right-hand corner). I like these colors that make night almost as bright as a sunny day.

Rue Claude Serres, not far from the old School of Law (fac de droit) and the Rectorat (education authority??).

Peut-être qu'Alain pourra nous dire qui sont ces personnages, dont un graffeur talentueux a fixé les traits sous un toit que l'on voit de la rue Claude Serres, en face de ce qui est devenu le Centre Chorégraphique.

Little piece of humor

I was just pretending the guy behind me was replaying The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. My friend Geneviève took this photo when I was playing the clown.

Je faisais semblant d'être attaquée à la tronçonneuse par le type sur le mur derrière moi. C'est Geneviève qui a pris la photo sous le pont de l'autoroute vers Lattes.

ABC Wednesday..... P is for Pete

A few weeks ago, my friend Geneviève and I discovered very impressive graffiti under the highway bridge along the river. In this photo I am shaking hands with a somewhat frightening character drawn (or painted?) by somebody named Pete (I think).

Il y a quelques semaines mon amie Geneviève et moi avons découvert des graffiti vraiment impressionnants sous un pont d'autoroute le long du Lez. Sur la photo je serre la main d'un personnage (un peu inquiétant) dessiné ou peint par un certain Pete.

I should have posted this graffiti on March 1st (belated theme day)

This is not a political post but it is surely highly politically incorrect. The caricature represents our present president as a little boy. President Sarkozy got married for the third time last month. I don't know who his first wife was. We all know who his new wife is, of course, as she was already very famous before marrying him.

The second wife, Cecilia, had been Jacques Martin's wife before becoming Sarko's wife. Jacques Martin was a famous TV host who died last year. It is said that Sarko fell in love with Cecilia the very day he married her to Martin (he was mayor of Neuilly).

For years or even decades Martin hosted a program called "L'école des fans" (the fans' school) during which children were sort of interviewed and sang (or tried to sing) a song by their favorite singer. The ritual question was: What do you want to do when you grow up? (thank you very much, Expat).

In the caricature, little Sarko answers: "to steal your wife from you" (which is what he finally did).

Pour mes potes français, c'est une caricature que j'ai photographiée sur les berges du Lez. Vous savez tous que Sarko a épousé en deuxièmes noces l'ex-épouse de Jacques Martin, donc je pense qu'il est inutile que je traduise tout mon post. En revanche, si "Stu" passe sur mon blog, qu'il n'hésite pas à modifier l'anglais s'il est "faulty".

Graphe

Graphes or graffs, that is the way we call those graffiti that are drawn on so many walls in Montpellier. Some of them are nice. A lot of them are ugly. The graphe in the photo was on the wall of an old mazet (a sort of cabin that you can see in vineyards) that was pulled down a few months ago. If you come to Montpellier you won't be able to see it, since it has vanished with the mazet and the vineyard. Instead you will probably see a tall concrete building. That's what we still call progress.
