Les photos de ciel prises hier sont sur mon ordinateur portable mais j'en ajouterai une ce soir. Le ciel est magnifique aujourd'hui à Montpellier et il fait même chaud sans chauffage chez moi.

WATER JOUSTING IN SETE

Yesterday I visited my friend Ginette in Sète. Every year in August, Sète celebrates Saint Pierre for four days. The main events are the water jousting tournaments that take place in the canal. Thousands of people were watching them yesterday and it was almost impossible for me to take photos.

The men in the bottom photos are José and David. They asked me to photograph them. They were enjoying their rosé wine. I guess thousands of liters of rosé wine got drunk for four days.

Hier j'ai rendu visite à mon amie Ginette à Sète. Tous les ans en août la ville célèbre la Saint-Louis pendant quatre jours. La principale attraction, ce sont les joutes qui se déroulent sur le canal qui traverse la ville. Des milliers de personnes étaient accumulées le long du canal et il me fut presque impossible de prendre des photos. José et David, sur la photo du bas, m'ont demandé de les prendre en photo. Comme tous les autres fans de joutes, ils se régalaient de vin rosé.

Sky Watch Friday in La Grande Motte

The color of the sky in La Grande Motte can change within a few minutes. I was there with my friend Mireille last Sunday. We thought there was a storm coming but it did not rain at all.

La Grande Motte (15 minutes from Montpellier) is a seaside resort that was built on sand a few decades ago but did not fail!

Le ciel peut changer en quelques minutes à La Grande Motte où je suis allée avec mon amie Mireille dimanche dernier. La Grande Motte a été bâtie sur le sable il y a quelques décennies. Le concepteur en a été le frère du ministre Balladur.

ABC Wednesday..... L is for Lodève

Lodève is another beautiful town in Languedoc-Roussillon, Hérault.

In the musée Fleury, one can see about 30 discoid steles (funeral stones)
dating back to the time of the Templars (Middle Ages).

Lodève est une autre belle ville de l'Hérault.

Au musée Fleury, on peut voir une trentaine de stèles discoidales
(pierres funéraires) qui date du temps des Templiers (Moyen-Age).

Domaine de Restinclières

I didn't want to leave the domaine de Restinclières before posting this photo I particularly like. It makes me think of some paintings I can admire at the Musée Fabre. I don't mean I took a good photo. I mean the landscape is magnificent :-)

Theme day: Bridges

My photos are a bit conventional. But they don't show "any" bridge: it's the Devil's bridge! One of the best known old bridges in my area. It dates back to the 11th century.

You can read the legend about this bridge here. I wil try to find the time to translate it tonight.

Today I just want to mention two blogs that I find very nice (of course, they talk about Montpellier).

The first one is called Le gâteau sous la cerise. "La cerise sur le gâteau" is an expression that means "the icing on the cake." Elsa, the owner of the blog, has reversed the expression (=the cake under the icing). Elsa has grown up in Montpellier and she pays homage to the city on her blog.

I found the link to the second blog on Elsa's blog. It is Le blog de l'Hérault. If you understand French, you will learn a lot about the département de l'Hérault whose capital is Montpellier, and about its history.

If you do not understand French, you will see a lot of beautiful photos of Montpellier and a lot of places in the département. The photo above has been found on Le blog de l'Hérault". It shows "le Scaphandrier" (deep-sea diver), a building located on La place de la Comédie.
