The Ephebes, on Place de Thessalie

The third Ephebe whose right arm had been stolen years ago has regained his initial integrity. The three statues are  in the same fountain Place de Thessalie, in Antigone, close to the pool and the public library.

L'Ephèbe dont on avait volé le bras droit est maintenant à nouveau entier. La fontaine aux trois statues est située sur la place de Thessalie dans le quartier d'Antigone.

J'ai pris les trois photos le 28 novembre. Ca devait être ce jour-là l'anniversaire de mon ex-époux. Je n'en suis plus très sûre, et c'est tant mieux.

Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette

Monsieur de La Fayette's bust stands among those of some prominent 1789 revolutionaries on the Place de la Révolution in Port Marianne. I have just realized I hardly knew anything about La Fayette, not even his first name. There is a long article about him on Wikipedia (they need some encouragement apparently).

Le buste de La Fayette, le marquis qui aimait l'Amérique autant que moi mais dont je ne connais presque rien, trône sur la place de la Révolution au milieu des têtes coupées, à Port Marianne.

Cold shower

Every time I see the naked statues in the fountain on the Place de Thessalie, I shiver with cold!

Chaque fois que je vois les statues de la fontaine de la place de Thessalie, j'ai froid dans le dos et ailleurs. Quelle douche, les amis, quelle douche. L'un des éphèbes en a perdu un bras. Volé ou rongé par la rouille?




URGE UNESCO TO REJECT THE PROPOSAL FOR BULLFIGHTS TO BE RECOGNISED AS AN INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF HUMANITY

La corrida est pour moi une monstruosité. Les aficionados ont demandé à l'UNESCO de la considérer comme un "bien immatériel de l'humanité" pour éviter qu'elle ne soit interdite.

Orlando Furioso

This little boy seemed to be very much intrigued by Fenosa's strange sculpture, Orlando Furioso, which was placed right across the street from the Hôtel de Région and the river Lez once the construction of Antigone was completed.

Ce petit garçon semblait fort intrigué par l'étrange sculpture de Fenosa, Orlando Furioso, qui a été placée en face de l'Hôtel de Région, tout au bout d'Antigone.

Sculpture

This is one of the statues that adorn the roof of the Musée Fabre, in Montpellier. This statue is a sculpture that pays homage to sculpture. I found that funny, sort of redundant.

I was a potter and a sculptor in a former life. I loved it.

The Ephebes

The Ephebes is the name that has been given to the three statues that support the upper part of the fountain on the Place de Thèbes, in Antigone. I do not know why but the ephebes have always sort of frightened me. Formerly they were in a long, narrow fountain on the Place de la Comédie, which stretched out lengthways. I remember when I passed along them at night I made a point of not looking in their direction.

Are there places where you feel ill at ease as I do when I am near these statues? I really do not understand why they have that effect on me.

I could not photograph the third ephebe as the statue was against the light.
