Maison Carrée, Nîmes

The Maison Carrée ("Square House"), in Nîmes, is a Roman temple that dates back more than 2000 years. It is being rehabilitated. When you look at it from a distance, it looks very severe! But if you look at it closely, you can see the perfection of its architectural and decorative details.

  6. I love the details - it's one of the things that I admired at the Louvre also.

The Romans were such master craftsmen.

  7. There were already hundreds of tourists in Nîmes. I was lucky to get the "plaza" empty to photograph the temple.

  8. This is so impressive. I always worry when something is restored that the essence of the original will be lost. This is obviously beautifully done.

Thanks so much for your explanation on Menton DP today. Really appreciate it.I've changed the words and linked to you.

  10. I was one of those tourists a few years ago. It was very busy. So good to get such a empty scene to show the detail of the building.
