Do you like concrete ? I don't.
This is the headquarters of our "regional government", where all the decisions regarding the region are made.... It is located at the far end of the new part of the city, called Antigone. It is not made of stone but of concrete and glass.
It was built about fifteen years ago by the then mayor of Montpellier, Georges Frêche, who wanted to become "président de la région Languedoc-Roussillon." But he lost the election, therefore it was his opponent who benefited from the magnificent Arch of Triumph that had not been erected for him. Jacques Blanc (James White in English :-)) was "king" for five years.
On the last election though, Frêche won, and since then we have had a socialist king in this wealthy palace :-)
It is very difficult to take photos of the Hôtel de Région as the area around it is almost constantly crowded. I was very lucky yesterday.
