The Ephebes is the name that has been given to the three statues that support the upper part of the fountain on the Place de Thèbes, in Antigone. I do not know why but the ephebes have always sort of frightened me. Formerly they were in a long, narrow fountain on the Place de la Comédie, which stretched out lengthways. I remember when I passed along them at night I made a point of not looking in their direction. Are there places where you feel ill at ease as I do when I am near these statues? I really do not understand why they have that effect on me.
I could not photograph the third ephebe as the statue was against the light.
