Saint-Pierre Cathedral (2)

The oldest parts of Saint-Pierre cathedral date back to the 14th century. Originally it was the chapel of a Benedictine monastery. It became a cathedral in 1536. It is a very impressive, massive building.

It is the only church in Montpellier which survived the Wars of Religion between Protestants and Catholics.

  1. I like your photo and noted the comment about the wars of religion. There have been many wars about religion and they are happening today. It is a shame that has to happen.

    Have yourself a nice weekend.

  2. Marie, old cathedrals like these excite me, I have a lot of old pictures of trips, but their stuck into boxes -- pre-digital stuff. You're pix push me to retrieve them.

I'm continuing on my series on porches today with a more familiar (and smaller porch). Going to finish up tomorrow with a tale of my "virtual" porch. You won't want to miss it.
