Viva la Rivoluzione!
This is the Place de la Révolution, which was named that way to pay homage to the Storming of the Bastille in 1789. Very French, isn't it? The plaza is located before the Faculté de Sciences Economiques (School of Economy) in the new district of Port Marianne, along the river Lez.
A great number of busts of famous Revolutionaries have just been placed on the plaza. They are so new that some of them have not been unwrapped yet.
I would not have imagined La Fayette with short hair (photo 1). Under him you can see the bust of Saint-Just who was beheaded at a very early age. My God, that man was handsome!
Most of those Revolutionaries were guillotined. I think that showing just their busts is a way to behead them a second time. I have bizarre ideas sometimes :-))

RépondreSupprimerI have always liked "busts". I think they are a wonderful art form.
Marie - just called in to say Au revoir - I am off on leave (in a couple of hours I fly out) to see my daughters and then we are all off to Vietnam.
RépondreSupprimerEven though I’ll be away I hope you can still pop in for a visit as I have been slaving over a hot computer putting a month of posts into drafts – I have blisters on my fingers. I have even got my October Theme day organized – how dedicated is that????
There will be plenty to see but I won't be able to visit you until I get back.
I miss you already!!!
Such an amazing turning point in history, the French revolution of 1789. I studied it in high school, but am ashamed to say I don't really remember much detail now.

La rivoluzione non era stata notata in Australia in 1789. Eravamo soltanto un anno in questo nuovo paese.

Hi Marie,
RépondreSupprimerThanks for your comment on my blog.
I survived the Greek fires. Actually I was in the Islands (Kos, Crete and Mykonos) where there were no fires; only the island of Evia was somehow affected. I’m glad to be back and catch up your posts!
The Place de la Révolution looks amazing. I also have some mixed feellings about busts...
As I’m late, my posts at Blogtrotter are still in Bali 2005. Hope you enjoy it, anyhow!
Have a great weekend!
I GoogleMapped Place de la Révolution and was struck by the spaghetti layout of the streets of Montpellier. I thought New Orleans was weird to find your way around. Because the streets are laid out here in crescent, there are the spokes and the radials. Everyone jokes that if you just stay on the road your on, you'll get to any other place you want to go....eventually.
