Theme day: Best photo of the year
I had a problem of choice once again (my friends interested in astrology would say it is because I am a Gemini woman with a Libra ascendant). Actually, since Daily City Photo blogs allowed us to do so, I would have liked to post photos by my friend bloggers, but that would have made a very long post!
I think among my 2008 photos of Montpellier those I prefer are the photos I took in Odysseum.
But to tell the truth, I would like to do as Olivier from Evry did, that is to pay homage to somebody.
The women who are celebrated in newspapers, magazines, on TV and on the Internet are almost all the time glamorous but so shallow, so superficial and so silly (such as Paris Hilton, or the girl who was elected Miss France this year, among many others).
Last week, I was walking in Montpellier with my young friend Christel when we "fell upon" Mathilde Monnier, who allowed me to take a photo of her (I asked for her permission). Mathilde Monnier is probably one of the greatest and most famous choreographers in the world. However she has remained a very straightforward (I hope this adjective does not have a pejorative connotation) and approachable lady. You can find thousands of websites that mention her work. You can also see videos of her and her work on sites like You Tube.
Moreover I think Mathilde Monnier and I look a bit like each other. I mean I ride the same bike with the same basket and I wear the same kind of clothes.
Her photo may not be the most original or the best photo I took this year but it is really one of my favorites.
Happy New Year to all of you!

RépondreSupprimerI love all of your choices...and I was especially drawn to the one with the lady! (my sons are both Gemini, so I understand your predicament! :)
RépondreSupprimerHappy New Year,
Andrea
Choices, choices, choices
RépondreSupprimerWishing you and yours a happy new year.
All your photos are wonderful. Happy New Year, Marie!
RépondreSupprimerGreat post, great photo, great woman.
RépondreSupprimerhappy New Year!
Mathilde was an excellent choice
RépondreSupprimerhappy new year
Bonne année de Paris et thank you for taking part in the City Daily Photo community.
RépondreSupprimerYou are right, Marie, "simple" is not a good choice because it can be used as a euphemism for "a bit dotty". I suggest "straightforward" instead.
RépondreSupprimerJoyeuse année...
OK, Expat, I'm going to replace simple... The meaning of the adjective "simple" is not very simple. I meant she is "unaffected," she does not make up, she is not sophisticated....
RépondreSupprimerIf my opinion counts, I would go for the second photo... ... secrets ...
RépondreSupprimerI love your twist on the theme, Marie - a thinking woman's post!
RépondreSupprimerAnd if you allow me to play this game, I would replace "unaffected" with "down to earth" ;-)
Happy New Year!
"unpretentious" would also be a good word for what you want to express. But "straightforward" works fine.
RépondreSupprimerMarie, what a good post...I love your photos.....I hope you have a great New Year!
RépondreSupprimerYou made for a vry good choice. She is someone special. To be honest, I am tired of the media hype behind celebrities acting badly, (Paris Hilton, et al). Wishing you a happyand safe new year!
RépondreSupprimerHi Dear
RépondreSupprimerI agree I had trouble too so I went for the one that was the most memorable for me - the journey is often more inmportant than the photo hey???
I too like the second one the best - great line and colour there.
Happy New Year from the frozen winter wonderland of Minneapolis!
RépondreSupprimerMay 2008 bring you good health & happiness,
- Mitch
They're great Marie and I can see a resemblance too. P'raps you were a twin in a previous life!
RépondreSupprimerI love all your choices too. This has been such a fun year getting to know you and I look forward to many more visits in 2008!
RépondreSupprimerit really is difficult to choose
RépondreSupprimerhappy new year
Comme Bergson, la 2° me plait le plus.
RépondreSupprimerBonne année et longue vie à votre blog.
Happy new year 2008 and long life to your blog.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Happy New Year, Marie! What lovely photos, I love these too!
RépondreSupprimerMarie, what a wonderful photo and story to go along with it. Thank you for sharing it as your best photo of the year!
RépondreSupprimerAwesome choice!
RépondreSupprimerHappy New Years to you and yours in 2008!

RépondreSupprimerI look forward to visiting your blog more often this 2008. And you're welcome to mine, too! For some reason, my link was not included in the participating blogs for the 1st of January 2008 theme day. Sorry I wasn't able to visit your blog sooner. I was in transit the whole of yesterday. I am now back in Norwich after the most fantabulous time at home in Manila.
Happy New Year to you and everyone you hold dear!

Marie,
RépondreSupprimerSomehow I missed your post on Theme Day and what a super post I missed. I love your sentiments and photograph. Well snap on the astrology - well almost. I'm Libra with Gemini rising! Just the other way around to you.
Belle sélection Marie !
RépondreSupprimerPerso j'ai encore raté le thème day ...
