The Saint Roch procession took place yesterday afternoon. I was sad to see that there were fewer foreign folklore groups than a few years ago. There are many "Saint Rochs" in the world. I could have entitled my post "Rocco and his brothers." :-)

La procession Saint-Roch s'est déroulée hier après-midi. J'ai été triste de voir qu'il y avait beaucoup moins de groupes folkloriques étrangers qu'avant.

Non non je ne suis pas partie en wouik, Marie, je recçois une amie qui devait partir aujourd'hui et qui a prolongé son séjour jusqu'à mercredi. Mais je vais essayer de poster quand même demain( en ce' moment elle fait sa sieste).
RépondreSupprimerIl me semble l'avoir di t à quin quin du coin de chez toi que lorsque nous allions en vacances à Sérignan, près de Béziers, Il y avait et sans doute ya toujours la procession des chevaux (sui viennent d'un peu partout, même de l'étranger) pour la bénédiction des chevaux par Saint-Roch, dont la statue est devant l'église du village( Cela vient d'une ancienne tradition pour présever les chevaux de la peste qui les avait décimés il y a des lustres. Je ne sais pas s'il s'agit du même St-Roch. Il y avait beacoup de monde à regarder cette procession, car les cavalière étaient souvent hibillés à l'espagnol. Olé !

RépondreSupprimerI'm always amazed at the "Catholicity" of cities in Europe. We have a similar kind of thing in certain areas of the states, but it's not a Catholic, but a fundamentalist Protestant thing. For example, in some places in the south, it is simply assumed that you go to church. I've had people relate how when applying for a job, one of the questions asked is: Where do you go to church?
Would Jews, or Muslims, or Atheists be welcome in your town? In many areas here, they are not welcome at all!
Avec un peu de retard bonne fête Marie, heureusement qu'il fait moins chaud ici, mais maman a souffert de déshydratation, je suis très préoccupée, heureusement ma sœur arrive la semaine prochaine pour un coup de main.
RépondreSupprimerEn effet c'est assez rigolo. Donc Saint Rocvh bénissait les chevaux et les chiens. Sais tu qu'à la coop de Sérignan il y a une cuvée St-Roch, en rouge et en rosé,. Ce sont de très bons vins. Nous en avions fait livrer à la maison pour notre mariage, avec mon Chéri.

This is fascinating, Marie. I went to the Procession in Gorbio on Sunday - the Penitents Blancs go from the Eglise to the Chapel St. Roch. It seems St. Roch saved Gorbio from the plague - the priest also said that the village (I believe other villages too) always had two chapels, one either end of the village to protect the village from the plague. Gorbio indeed has two chapels as well as the church. He too mentioned the dog. Thanks for the two links which are most interesting. I believe there is a statue of St. Roch plus dog in Menton too. Ed Ward's blog on this is fascinating and when I post on St. Roch (not yet) I will certainly refer to him. Thanks for that.
