ABC Wednesday......... G is for Goose
I wanted to write about my son Gregory but I am a bit afraid of posting personal photos on the Internet now (after having problems with a crazy blogger last year). I could have posted photos of my G friends, the two Geneviève(s), Dominique Gauthiez-Rieucau, Mireille Giraud, etc. but I have so many G friends that I might have made one of them jealous :-)))
Therefore I decided to post these photos of geese I photographed near the Westport public library in 2008. I have never seen geese like these in France. I know they can be a nuisance. The young lady in the photo would not have been able to sunbathe sitting on the lawn. Some people say these birds can be very aggressive. Those I photographed in Westport were not, and they even seemed to pose for me. No white geese among them!(white geese, "oies blanches" in French, is a pejorative way to call "young innocent" girls or women - our language is full of images).

And lovely geese these be, though probably not as lovely as your friends!
RépondreSupprimerOn behalf of the ABC Wednesday team, thank you! - Ramblin' with Roger
That is so lovely to watch. Happy Wednesday!

We often see Canada geese like these in the west of Britain. They're handsome birds. White geese can certainly be aggressive, and rummaging about in my memory I recall a story (but no details) that geese once saved the citadel of early Rome when it was under attack.
RépondreSupprimerWhen my children were little, geese in the park would aggressively confront them. Maybe they are more aggressive with people closer to their own size.
RépondreSupprimerAh oui, Dafydd, les oies du Capitole.
RépondreSupprimerI had two geese when I lived in Belgium. When I came back home, they started cackling until I arrived. I have such great memories of them.
Canadian geese can be aggressive and they sure as heck are messy! But I always thought they were attractive critters.
RépondreSupprimerNice photography, Marie!
Gee, you did really well! ;-)
I meant my geese started cackling as soon as they could "realize" I was coming, when I was still several kilometers from my house. They must have had built-in radars. :-))
RépondreSupprimerThank you to all of you.
That's a lot of them! :) So nice to see them together, and with that brick in the background too.
radars huh. Funny last comment.:P What an interesting bunch.
Dear Marie,
RépondreSupprimerMay I inform you that the specy of gooses you present is named "Bernache du Canada" .
RépondreSupprimerCanada geese are a particular menace in Chicago at certain times of the year. They congregate in huge flocks wherever there is grass, shitting everywhere and scaring people. They're protected so nobody can cull them.
RépondreSupprimerGeese ! what a good idea for G ! I could have put a picture of myself, but it's already in the profile, lol !
RépondreSupprimerVery nice goose pictures, Marie, I particularly like the first one.
They don't look hungry! Nice photo.
RépondreSupprimerCanada geese, or brants, are a protected species in the US. Consequently, they've increased in number dramatically in the eastern part of the country, becoming pests on schoolyards, golf courses, and farmland. They protect their nests and, if you come near it, they'll go after you. Once, I nearly had an accident when two parents and a dozen young goslings crossed a busy highway to get to a pond. Everyone hit their brakes, taking care not to hit any of the them, but almost hitting each other. They took their time crossing the road, as if they knew how important they were. Ha!
RépondreSupprimerI really think they are so beautiful. The colors in the photos is great too.
