Marché de Provence

Well, today I am taking you to a "marché de Provence." Actually Montpellier is not in Provence but in Languedoc, but the markets are the same, full of colors and good smells, music and funny people.

The "marché des Arceaux" (market of the arches) is held every Saturday under the arches of an aquaduct that dates back to Louis 14th.

I intended to stay at the market for about an hour. In fact I spent almost 3 hours there and I enjoyed it very much. I think I will go again next Saturday.

  1. It's a very, very hard call, but I think the Languedoc may be my favourite region of France. No wait....it's.....oh......no......it's....

Whatever - great colour and pics there!

  2. WOW! Great pictures, Marie, love them all, great color and composition! Sunny and cheery. I went to the market today, too, but it was rainy and windy and I haven't posted any of the pictures yet.

  3. Marie, I can really 'smell' the market from your photos, the spices, peaches, strawberries.

I love the dresses hanging in the stall - they look like beautiful curtains blowing in a window.

I will post some photos of my local market next week - it is oh soooo different !!!

  5. Wonderful tour....I gained 10 pounds just looking at all the delightful food, and then couldn't fit into that darling dress in the last picture.

  8. That market is the one thing that scares me about moving to Montpellier; I'll be broke but fat in no time. The prices are, um, pretty astronomical. But oh, what an experience; I love the guy with the "museum of cheese" who manages to fit about 80 varieties in his little refrigerated truck.

BUT...hope you had a good Bastille Day.
And I think the Australian rugby team, the Wallabies, are based in your beautiful city later this year for the World Cup. Not 100% sure though....
