Sunday Bridges..... the Roman Bridge in Sommières
In this photo my British friend Dafydd is standing before the Roman bridge upon the Vidourle in Sommières, Gard, which is more than 2,000 years old.
More Sunday Bridges photos on San Francisco Daily Photo.

The fountain on the Place de la Révolution is brand new! Its water seems to be dancing in the air. Please go to Mrs. Nesbitt's place to...
This is a lovely old bridge not only spanning the river but spanning over the years.

a beautiful scene & a place I would enjoy taking a walk too!
RépondreSupprimer2000 years???
RépondreSupprimerOur best bridges begin to disappear in rust. In fact our infrastructure is about to collapse as nothing is being spent on it these days. I wish the Romans would have spent some time here.
I did hear though that the Colosseum was built from the spoils of the sack of Jerusalem. I didn't know that. And i suppose bridges came about in the same way – somebody's money but not your own. Of course they had to fight and die to get it.
It has aged well, this bridge!
RépondreSupprimerAdding your friend to the compostion makes for a most interesting bridge picture.

Un joli village.
RépondreSupprimerI like the bridge and the man in front of it. A nice photo.
RépondreSupprimerWhat a perfect photo for Louis la Vache's BRIDGE meme! That an amazing, historic bridge!
Thank you for this, post, and Happy Valentine's Day
RépondreSupprimerbelle photo
RépondreSupprimerSommieres ?la terre de Sommieres vient de la ?
autrefois on se servait de la terre de sommieres en poudre comme detachant, comme absorbant
pour les taches de gras
Fabulous photo, Marie! Bravo!!
RépondreSupprimerGreat photo. The bridge has really withstood the test of time. Could you do me a favour? When I reach 2,000 years old please take my photo standing in Dafydd's place and post it on your blog:)
RépondreSupprimerSuper Shot! Leave it up to the Romans...they really knew how to build long lasting bridges. This one is beautiful, and you friend in the foreground adds so much to the overall composition. Lovely.
RépondreSupprimerI hope Andy doesn’t think I’m 2000 years old, though I do creak a bit!
I found Sommières vaguely familiar. I only remembered some time afterwards that I had been there a few years before, approaching on that occasion from Alès. It’s a very nice place to visit.

Something new for us to explore the next time we are in France. We have been to the Pont du Gard many times but didn't know about the Roman Bridge in Sommieres.
