bel hommage au dernier poilu
RépondreSupprimerThankyou Marie. I got a text message from SFR yesterday and I didn't know what 'poilu' meant. Even this morning on the radio it was never explained.
RépondreSupprimerMay he rest in peace indeed.
A very sad day, indeed.
RépondreSupprimerHere in Australia, the last "Digger", has sadly passed away and we must now revisit the former battlefields of France to pay homage to all those who fought side by side for the price of our freedom.
He was John Ross who died at the age of 109, nearly as old as M. Ponticelli.
May god rest all their souls.
May he rest in peace.
RépondreSupprimerI learned about "poilus" in my French class...
Are his comrades representing the Algerian and WWII?
I heard that on the news yesterday. Were you there to take this photo?
RépondreSupprimerNo, Ineke, I found the photo on the site of Le Figaro (French newspaper).
RépondreSupprimerWWI soldiers were called "poilus" "(=hairy) because they could not shave in the trenches.
There are still 8 "poilus" alive, in Great Britain, the USA and Turkey.
RépondreSupprimerAmazing that a few survivors of the First World War lived to be so old. The last Canadian died just a few months ago.
RépondreSupprimerA nice homage.
RépondreSupprimerIt's a great history lesson just to see him.
RépondreSupprimerWhat a wonderful legacy ~~ 110 There probably aren't too many of those special men left.
RépondreSupprimer110, 109... does it mean you need to fight a war to go deep into one hundred???
RépondreSupprimerLove that comment on the car ad.
Bon weekend!
Gil
WOW! He lived a long time. May he enjoy the afterlife. Or find sweet rest in the bosom of God. Very interesting!
RépondreSupprimerThanks for coming to Invisible Trail.
Hopefully now his memories of those terrible days in WW1 have left him, and he is at last at peace.
